If you are an Etsy Shop Owner join the Etsian Magazine on Facebook and submit your shop for a feature, show your wonderful amazing creations and join in the fun with this deliciously wonderful group!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/estiansmagazine/

Recently when asked where did ‪#‎EtsiansMagazine‬ come from? What is Etsians Magazine? The owner Maylani Malissa Sayers published this response:

This idea came to me after I opened my own Etsy store and joined groups here on Facebook. I was really amazed on how many handmade products were really out there. I was meeting people around the world who made some pretty awesome products. I would see people, in the groups I joined, posting about their successes and/or struggles.
I found myself questioning-- How did they come up with their products? Who or what inspired them? Did they ever feel discouraged and what made them keeping going? I was determined to find out and hear the stories behind these amazing products.
Even though I was already running a Photography business & an Etsy shop of my own, all while being a stay-at-home mom aka mom duties, I started to think about ways I could do this. I wanted to find a way in which I could help not only the shop owners when it came to showcasing their items but also helping those who don't know about handmade items. Because honestly before I opened up my own Etsy shop, I didn't even know about handmade items and how many of them that are out there. I fell in love with the personal connection you get with the person who makes the products. How you don't have to go through the struggle of 1800 numbers or customer service/long waits when it comes to issues. Even more so on how you could have someone personalize a custom order for you.
Finally, I thought about designing a magazine but honestly I hadn't designed one since college. I already had the skills when it comes to graphic and web design and thought to myself-- I'm going to just go for it! Its then that I brought up the idea to people I knew who were shop owners and they loved it. This one idea had people super excited about the magazine and that made me even more nervous to do it but I was determined to help spread the word about handmade items.
Currently, my goals for Etsians Magazine is to continue to spread the word about all things handmade to people all around the world. Keep sharing all these amazing stories from the amazing people behind the products. My focus is NOT about making "money" because at the end of the day, I don't make a dime and thats okay with me.
It warms my heart when I see/hear good feedback about Etsians Magazine--- makes the long hours worth it and honestly keeps me going, even during times when I feel a bit overwhelmed because of how hard it is to run a magazine. Even more so on why I was truly lucky to have my sister come on board to help run this magazine. We are a small team but we work our butts off so that we can continue to help spread the word.

This spectacular publication is available in print and online so check it out now! Not only is it filled with "Must-Have" items but it is a great go to for art gallery or jewelry store owners, gift shops and one of a kind original shops to find great lines of products to stock up on! Discovering new artisans and drooling over the handmade items....cant go wrong there!

A special thank you to Mayani Malissa Sayers and Etsian Magazine for the expose on Rayvenwoodmanor Jewelry!

To Susan Who Found My Cat & Who Lives On Lake Jean In Orlando, Florida

UPDATE: December 19th, 2012 ~ R.I.P. my little Fish...I loved you more than you will ever know. Twenty years is a long time for best friends and I will see you again...thank you again to Susan who gave me the much needed extra time with him.

Two weeks ago I saw a little black cat dead on Chickasaw Trail on my way to the store. I thought it was awful and hoped the owner would not see him. Maybe they would just think the little cat got a new family. On my way back from the store I saw a man and a woman with an SUV on the side of the road. The woman had a shovel and was burying the little baby.  The man was looking around panicked like someone would stop and yell at them:) I remember thinking, if it was her cat she would have taken it home. Then I thought what a wonderful lady to stop and bury that little kitty as we have awful buzzards in our nieghborhood. No one will ever know she did that and she is amazing! I could not imagine what it would be like to lose one of my cats and then see my cat on the side of the road.

Now I know what it is like. It is pure hell. One of the worst kinds of pain imaginable. I have a siamese cat named Fish who is 18 years old, blind and half deaf. He is a trooper and manages to manuever through life adjusting to his disabilities in a way I never thought he would. Fish went missing on Monday, May 7, 2012. Somehow he managed to get through the cat door that he never went through before and got out into a rain storm.

My 3 year old and 7 month old sons and I searched for two days to no avail. Fish is my only cat that wears a collar with metal charms on it. He loves his collar and could easily take it off but has not done so in over 18 years.  One of the charms had my mother's phone number (that is how long I have had Fish:) on it so I ws a bit hopeful someone would find him and call.  At first I thought...he is a trooper, he will make it back at whatever cost. Then I got scared thinking about him suffering and being alone in the world missing his family, blind, and scared, and most likely dying.

Not knowing whether he was alive or dead was eating me up so finally I had to convince myself he was gone and not coming back.  My three year old kept asking, "Mom. where is Fish? I miss him." and crying. I then realized it is more difficult to be a parent than I ever thought.  I told my son that Fish found a girlfriend and had to stay with her. He said, "Maybe his girlfriend is blind too and he needs to take care of her. That sounds like him!"

After three days had passed and I spent my morning looking for buzzards in the neighborhood, I knew I should not take the children out to look any further.  I figured even my Kingpin cat Fish, the fighter that he was, could not withstand the elements or navigate his way home to his family blind.  Then something utterly amazing happened. A woman named Susan who live on Lake Jean almost two miles away telephoned my mother and said she had Fish! I could not believe it! She stated that she found him sitting in her front yard that morning! My little Fish braved the wild, the woods, and the alligators and made it to someone safely.

Minutes later, Susan arrived at my house with Fish in a laundry basket and we were happily reunited.  He looked amazing for having been out for three days with not a scratch on him. I could not thank Susan enough! I was so rattled I could not think of anything to do for her to show my gratitude. I was flustered, amazed, and I think in shock. I gave her my business card for my Etsy store and begged her to check it out and pick something nice out for herself so I could give it to her as thanks. Whatever she wanted I would make sure she got! I knew as I was saying it that she would not call.  She was not that type of person although I wish she was so I could feel like I gave her something for helping my family and my baby Fish.

When Susan was leaving I said, "You are amazing! Do you know how many people would not even stop and pick him up?"  Susan replied, "Do you know how many people would?"

Susan, wherever you live, I hope you read my blog as you have my business card with my blog address....I want to thank you with all my heart for being my hero in more ways than one. I owe you a big one. You have given me the best Mother's Day present of all. All my babies are with me today:)

Magic On Etsy - The Artwork of Louisiana Artist Don Cobb

Long before Harry Potter there was already Magic In The Alley. Mary Calhoun, the writer of Magic In The Alley, is a prolific and lovely writer of children's books. Magic In The Alley is definately her very best.  Cleery, your basic kid on summer vacation, is an avid explorer of alleyways and an avid seeker of magic in any form. Her story takes place in August, when summer feels like it never has to end (her words), where she discovers a box full of magic items in an alley junk shop. With her friend Knobs, and a stuffed crow come to life, she sets off on lively magic adventures to find a way for friend Crow to be able to fly again.

This book takes the most trivial of things and makes it magic. Read from a child's point of view it is adventurous and fun. Read from an adult's point of view it brings back the magic of childhood, friendship, and summertime when you had all the time in the world to explore and play.

As I child I longed to find a magic crow and as an adult I have been searching for an icon to represent my Etsy shop, Rayvenwoodmanor. I knew I wanted a black crow of some size and style but most of all he had to have magic.

As everyone knows, when you are looking for something you never find it. I abandoned my search for a crow several months ago then suddenly while browsing on Etsy, I came across this wonderful shop DonshanArt which features artwork by the Louisiana artist, Don Cobb.  Don’s work depicts various scenes of New Orleans, the Garden district, Volkswagen Buses, Guitars, and more.

Initially as I browsed Don’s shop I was attracted to the colorful depictions of various places in New Orleans that I myself have visited.  As I continued to look I came across the most amazing piece of artwork I have seen in literally years.  It captivated me. A crow, but not just any crow this was a  very magical crow. I could not believe my eyes!

A single silver shiny Fleur de Lis earring dangles from the crow’s mouth and is reflected in his eye.  In the words of Artist Don Cobb, “Crow finds Fleur de Lis earring on beach!  Crow's feathers are wet from walking in the surf and she has a reflection of the Fleur de Lis earring she found in her eye. The shiny earring will make great decor for her nest in the cedars.” Just when I thought it could not get any better than this, I noticed the title of the crow print, “Finder’s Keepers”

"Finders Keepers" is a matted art print, reproduction of Don’s original watercolor painting. I purchased the print framed and mounted inside a beautiful, shabby chic, acid free, Fleur de Lis mat which is handmade by the artist and encased in a 11.25 x 13.25" Distressed, shabby chic frame. The frame is an ivory color with glass front.  Don applied wooden Fleur de Lis appliques in each frame corner, then  distressed each frame himself and give it a shabby chic look.

This magical crow print can be purchased as an 8x10" matted print or framed. Each print is signed and numbered on front with title, date on back of frame (Mine is number 63 of 250 framed prints!) Get yours now in his Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/listing/89337371/shabby-chic-framed-fleur-de-lis-crow-art

When I initially spoke to Don about “Finder’s Keepers” he stated, “When I do a piece of art I try to do something that looks into your soul. It does not always work but has on a couple of things I have done. Another art I have that grabs people is "River Calf" for some reason."

The print "River Calf" is a 10x10" art print, reproduction of Don Cobb’s original watercolor painting and is from his cows and calves art series along the Red River.

When I told Don I had to have his permission to use his crow as my icon for Rayvenwoodmanor he was kind enough to allow me to use it and told me, “I have had lots of women buyers say that they could not resist the Crow art. All of them say the same thing...'I don't know what it is but I am so attracted to this Crow and must buy it".  Don also said, “Lots of people who have bought this framed Crow say it has brought them good fortune.” Fortunately for me Don’s crow did bring me good luck and has completed Rayvenwoodmanor.

So if you are feeling lucky, nostalgic for New Orleans and its French Quarter beauty, or are simply looking for a little magic…I urge you to check out Don Cobb’s artwork and perhaps you will find what you have been looking for tucked away in a little corner of his shop.
